Memtime is not tracking (blocked by Windows group policy)

Memtime's tracking can be blocked by Windows group policy. These settings can be changed by your Windows administrator.

If Memtime isn't tracking your activities yet, and you usually need admin permissions to install programs on your device, the tracking might be blocked by a group policy. In that case, it's best to share this article with your system administrator.

Here are the steps to allow Memtime's tracking core:

  • Open Group Policy Management

Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter if you're configuring a local group policy on your computer.

If you're managing group policies in an Active Directory environment, open the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) on your domain controller.

  • Create or Edit a GPO

In the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC), navigate to the location where you want to create or edit the GPO. This could be at the local computer level or within an Organizational Unit (OU) if you're in an Active Directory environment.

Right-click the target location, and choose "Create a GPO in this domain, and link it here" to create a new GPO, or right-click an existing GPO and choose "Edit" to modify it.

  • Edit GPO Settings

In the Group Policy Object Editor (GPOE), navigate to the following location:

Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Software Restriction Policies

If it doesn't exist, you may need to create it. Then, right-click "Software Restriction Policies" and select "New Software Restriction Policies".

  • Create a Path Rule

Right-click on "Additional Rules" in the right pane and select "New Path Rule".

Browse to the location of the core.exe file, and select it:

C:/Users/Username/AppData/Local/memtime/user/core/core.exe

  • Set Security Level

Select the security level for this path rule to “Unrestricted”.

Switching to a Basic user will not address this issue. To ensure Memtime can track activities effectively, this step is necessary.

  • Apply the GPO

Close the Group Policy Object Editor.

Link the GPO to the appropriate Organizational Unit (OU) or scope where you want it to apply.

  • Force Group Policy Update

On the target computer where you want to allow the program to run, open an elevated Command Prompt or PowerShell window. Then, run the following command to force a Group Policy update:

gpupdate /force

Once your system administrator applies these changes, Memtime should have the necessary permissions to now start tracking your activities for you.
